It can be classed as child abuse.
Even the Children Act mentions the dangers of children being exposed or witnessing any form of abuse (this includes arguing and shouting).
The consequences will be that the child mimicks the behaviour. How are they supposed to know that shouting isn't the normal way to communicate?
They could also start to miss their milestones... maybe walk later, talk later, not feed themselves, so on.
Their behaviour can be impaired to that of a younger child.
They can get behaviour problems.including bed wetting, not feeding so on.
Children need continuity and must be able to develop attachments to parents or carers. They need a stable happy home for this. So sort out the situation before you do any lasting damage!

He will probably start shouting too! children usually mimic behaviour and he is at a very impressionable age. Arguing is never good to hear for any child regardless of age, but don't let the hurt and upset after an argument become apparent as that is what he is likely to pick up on more and will become anxious and unsettled. If you are constantly arguing, maybe the issues in the relationship need resolving one way or the other, so that you can all be happy and more relaxed. It's easy to say don't argue in front of him, but sometimes life is not that simple. Good luck

It is a very bad thing to argue in front of a child that age or any age for that matter. The argument is between 2 adults and should be kept that way. An 18 month old is alot smarter than you're giving him credit for. They are developing feelings and emotions so quickly during that age and you are not being fair to your child to put them in the middle of your fights. It could be causing your child to become nervous or anxious and he will grow up feeling somewhat responsible for the 2 of you arguing. As Dr Phil always says...it's better to be from a broken home than to live in one. The 2 of you need to be more mature and get a grip for your son. Keep the fighting and yelling away from your child. If the 2 of you don't get along that's fine but at least try to be civil with each other in front of your baby. You are going to be a part of each others lives for a long time....you are parents and that will never change so get used to it and learn hoiw to deal with each other.

like everyone has already told u it's not a good environment for ur 18 month old! If ur arguing badly in front of ur child, then u need to walk away before it goes to the extreme of hitting each other and verbal abuse if it hasn't happened yet, or get some counseling and settle ur problems and learn how to deal with ur problems in private, because when ur child is older, he will act out what he feels! he will start hitting both of you, because he knows that u 2 don't like each other cuz ur fighting, so he will b confused and the only thing he can do is fight u guys and get rebellious!

Even a new born can pick up on vibes. Imagine being in the room with two people who are constantly arguing and not able to talk. It makes the baby a nervous wreck. Jerky, like you would be if someone screamed in your face.Even though you may not be in the baby face, the baby is so little and sensitive everything is magnified.

It is not good for any child to see or hear there parents arguing. The child will grow up thinking that that is the way he or she is suppose to talk to others. It doesn't help you either, you are the one who has to deal with the child after the other parent leaves. That means that either you are going to take the argument you had out on them,or calm yourself down enough to be able to go back to the normal way you deal with him or her.

jeez...stop it now...that poor kid....did you know that from birth kids pick up on bad vibes....it can do long lasting damage....if she is not around then ditch her, take custody of the baby give him/her a better life than constant arguing...it's not healthy...she's the mother, she should be there....at this age it's vital that both parents are there....stop the fighting, if you feel like arguing then at least do it away from your child...it could be damaging....stop it now....

You and your girl need some counseling. It's not healthy for your 18month old child to be caught in the middle of this. Many things mentally and emotionally could happen to your child. It's better for you and your girl to get some help before all three of you need help.

It will be upsetting for your child to hear this,it could give your child disturbed nightmares and development problems, your child could also become fearful of the parents and also become aggressive himself.
