You might only need the correct codec so media player can recognize the files. See the URL below for a good pack of codecs. Just download and install and try to play them again. If that didn't work you can download a free transcoding program called MediaCoder that can convert your files. See second URL.

Why not try VLC media player? It works with almost everything.
