The Serenity Prayer
God grant me the serenity
to accept the things I cannot change;
courage to change the things I can;
and wisdom to know the difference.

Living one day at a time;
Enjoying one moment at a time;
Accepting hardships as the pathway to peace;
Taking, as He did, this sinful world
as it is, not as I would have it;
Trusting that He will make all things right
if I surrender to His Will;
That I may be reasonably happy in this life
and supremely happy with Him
Forever in the next.
Amen.

Yes, I know this prayer very, very, well. It is said at every meeting of Alcoholics Anonymous that I attend. It it also said at every Narcotics Anonymous meetings as well. It is the recovery prayer.

I'm not familiar with this prayer.
Accepting the things that one cannot change has two sides, though. One is definitely good and is about accepting one's own infirmities (although praying for health is OK even when your doctors say your illness has no cure), accepting one's own body (no frivolous breast enlargement and the like), accepting that a certain cute guy/girl has other plans that dating us and so on.
The other means accepting the things that are beyond our power to change, which are wars, totalitarian governments, criminality, and violence against other human beings generally speaking, and then natural disasters, epidemics, incurable diseases and the like. We have to pray for these things to cease, to decrease or not to happen at all, out of love for our fellows. (And don't worry: if somehow it is for someone's good to go through suffering, God will let this happen, but we will have manifested our love in this way.) Serenity doesn't come from accepting these things as they are, but from being in communion with God. Remember when God told Moses He is going to destroy the Hebrews and raise a new people from Moses' descendants? Moses prayed God to have mercy and God listened to his prayer.

It's by Reinhold Niebuhr (1892 - 1971)

God, give us grace to accept with serenity the things that cannot be changed,
Courage to change the things which should be changed,
And the wisdom to distinguish the one from the other.
