Post a question on evolution vs creationism or single religion education and see what I mean. Make sure the question is phrased in a way which isn't offensive, and youl still get irate fanatics complaining and answering with huge tracts of the bible (if you can call that an answer). Surely the idea of posting a question is to get other peoples views and provoke discussion, but some of these people take it as an insult because it's some sort of crime against THIER god, its not a crime against everybodies god and many of us don't have any god.
What is thier problem?

CHINTOT- the question is not about evolution/creation, and I am actually fairly well read on both subjects and everything in between and do not at all mind discussing them. The question is about people who refuse discussion but feel they have to say something anyway.

I don't think you can answer a question on these questions without bringing The Bible, Koran or Torah into the equation. It would be like asking a question about Conan Doyle without mentioning Sherlock Holmes, I think that people have a belief that runs in a contradictory fashion to Science and they use their religious books to illustrate what they believe. Don't be so resistant to broadening your understanding of others.

ithe way you phrase your rant ironically makes you seem like some sort of fanatic. what should i do... hmmm? .... perhaps i should just pray for you? (chuckle!) or i could direct you to something about evolution indeed existing as part of God's plan. we are all free to believe what we will but i hope you take some time to clue yourself up on evolution and creation before your next rant ...

It may annoy you but I honestly do not think it is hate motivated. They believe that your soul is endangered and they are seeking to turn you from what you believe to what they believe to be true. I will admit that the methods are often poor and that saying that they pity you and will pray for your soul is condescending and a bit rude but the motivation isnt as bad as you probably think.

They say that in an attempt to make themselves feel better because of their insecurities. It’s hard for them to open to something new when all their lives they’ve been taught one “truth”. They will never listen to anything that contradicts their religion because they have “faith”.

Well, to put it indelicately? They think their shyt is ice cream and everyone ought to have two scoops. They used to make me angry with all that "I'll pray for your soul" garbage, but I just don't let it get to me anymore. I generally just laugh and shake my head at this kind of passive condescension.

Yes, the term "my god" ( as in "I own god") gets to me every time. And you know what the uber pious mean by putting you on their prayer list, don' t you? Its really their s--- list. What fools these mortals be!

I don't know that's what I'm trying to figure out. I think their god can protect himself. He doesn't need or shouldn't even want his followers to act like thugs for him. I don't know what type of things these people are into, but it only fortifies that I don't need to hang out in church.

In a word: Fear.
Anger is fear. Every time. So ask yourself, what could they be afraid of?
When you understand that, you'll understand believers of all stripes. It's a valuable lesson, take my word for it.
