In California there is almost never anyone knocking on doors selling anything anymore. I'm so glad. What a pain. I've never heard of what you are talking about.

Yep. Last year actually, oil paintings door to door... I felt bad turning him away, they were beautiful, all of scenery, but what a way to make a living! Expensive too, $150 ea.. ouch!
I was surprised to see him, like you, hadnt thought such a thing existed since the 80's LOL!

I had a Polish girl at my door selling paintings,It was frosty and she was freezing, I gave her £15 for quite a good pencil drawing of a horse & foal.
When I was in the previous house I was offered the famous or infamous "TINA" I think it was bottle green and there was a girl in it from Malaya. QUITE REVOLTING

Oh my god they are selling that Cr4p. They also used to sell lion and tigers. Oh and there was that real naff one of a young girl reading a book she had a brown dog.
