They usually pop on their own but, you should put some ointment on it and cover it to keep it clean.

Don't hold the ice on it, you can damage the surrounding tissue. Rub the ice on the area for about 5 minutes at a time, take a break for 15 minutes or so, then rub again - but this will just help with pain, not with infection. And you are exactly right - don't pop the blister!
Your best bet is to get some waterproof bandaids, there are even some specifically for blisters and burns, and to keep it covered as much as possible. Curad makes a waterproof bandaid with silver in the pad, that would be great, as silver has antibacterial properties that are excellent for burns.
The main things are keep it clean, keep it covered and keep it dry.

You sound as if you have a small second degree burn. Your skin is a protective barrier to infection, and any loss of skin, however small, is susceptible to infection, especially if the blister is burst.
With a second degree burn you have lost the top layers of skin, called the epidermis, and extends to the deeper layers of the skin called the dermis. You have done the right thing in cooling it, but ice can cause ice burn, continue to cool it with ice water. If it continues to to sting and swell or the blister gets bigger then you should see your doctor.
Burns management
For the few hours of a burn you should cool, under running cool water, ice can be added, but never on the burn as it can cause shock and ice burn.
Always seek medical opinion if a blister is present, DO NOT BURST THEM! If the blister has burst, you need to cover with clean sterile NON STICK gauze dressing over the wound. Also never ever apply any creams, because if it is a major burn, it makes it difficult for doctors to treat effectively.

Don't pop your blister. Cover it with a dry dressing- you can put some antibiotic cream with a painkiller on it if it really bothers you. If it continues to be red after a few days or the pain increases instead of getting better, you should see your doctor. As always, if you have any questions, call your doctor. Hope you feel better!!

dont be a pussy! drain the blister using syringe or clean sewing needle, make sure the hole dosen't tear (keep the hole small as possible. cover it with a bandaid until you go to bed, then leave it uncovered so the air can dry it out and shrink the skin back to normal. In the morning, put bacitracin on it and maybe a bandaid if you feel the need. You dont need to worry about infection much unless you are working with animals or gross ****. You are not going to get the plague because of a hole in your body!
