Yes.
He (Jesus) said in reply, "It is written: 'One does not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes forth from the mouth of God.'" (Matthew 4:4 quoting from Deuteronomy 8:3)
Catholics have been meditating for almost 2,000 years.
Mediation as prayer is encouraged by the Catholic Church.
For Catholics meditation is a quest to understand the why and how of the Christian life, in order to adhere and respond to what the Lord is asking.
One way this is done is by reading scripture, asking God to give you understanding of it, and then pondering it in your heart.
Here is the Pope promoting meditation on the Scriptures: http://www.catholic.net/global_catholic_news/template_news.phtml?news_id=76678&channel_id=2
With love in Christ.

Placing Bible on the same level as the mind of God is idolatry.
Using the various versions of history in the Bible and the instructions in it as well as the contradictions, you might meditate on how to derive meaning that nourishes your soul. But read it all first. And do not rely on others to tell you what it "really" means.

Yes sure it is. But God's words are those uttered by God,,not the translations. You are not permitted to translate any fellow's Name, but you daringly translate The Name of God worshipped by Jesus in his Aramaic. Meditate on exact Names and not on translations of Names and then see the spiritual change.

Sometimes when I try to feed my soul with the Bible, like the parts that Saul of Tarsus wrote, it gets sick and pukes it up again. When I feed it the good parts, the parts with a decent moral message attributed to Jesus, it feels nice and fuzzy and warm.

Yes. As you think and meditate on what you have read it makes infinately more sense than if you just give it a cursory glance. You will find answers to many of your questions and yes it feeds your soul.
