Honestly, it depends on the guy, how bold he is, and just his personality. The best way you can tell is to get to know him better and make a closer friend of him. The more you get to know him, the more apparent it will become if he likes you or not, and the more apparent it will become if he is worth persuing.

Eye contact . You know, when he keeps it just a second longer. Subtle gestures like play fighting or little digs. When he is real inquisitive about what you do when he can't see you. When you always catch him looking at you. When he gets a bit personal in his conversations , just trying to get to know you a bit better.
