I've heard that a week on Maui isn't enough to fully relax and get into the island spirit... Is that true?

I'm a firm believer that it takes longer than a week to relax on ANY vacation...

If you can afford to stay longer than a week, by all means, do! Take at least a week surrounded by two long weekends, but two weeks (or more) is much better. If you go to Hana, that's at least a whole day right there - and I recommend two (spending the night at the Hana-Maui if you can afford it) so that you're not rushed on that winding road, and can see everything along the way, and really enjoy the aloha of laid-back Hana once you get there. (Ooh, and be sure to eat at Mama's Fish House on your way home!) But if you can't, at least you have a whole week on one island; it takes at least that long just to touch on the highlights. I've done Hawaii before where I had 8 or 9 days for three islands, and I don't think I'll ever do it that way again. So, take two weeks. Take three! Don't you deserve it?

You are picking the wrong island to get into the island spirit... Maui is too commercialized... I own a timeshare on Kauai.. It's furthest west of the Hawaii Islands and the place where Gilligan's Island, Fantasy Island, Jurassic Park, South Pacific and many other films and TV shows were staged. It is so beautiful that even though I live on the US east coast I bought there on my first visit... We spend two weeks there every other year... I will never trade my timeshare to go somewhere else. Been to all the other islands and Kauai is the best to get the feel of true Hawaii! Even if you are only going for a week!

I went for a week and have to say that it was not nearly enough time. The island is so beautiful and has so many different places tucked away that a week just doesn't give you the time to fully enjoy it. I am fortunate in that I have family living there so I plan to stay about three weeks on my next trip.

I believe in a 10 day minimum. Gives you a few days to acclimate and then a week to enjoy.
