Thank you!!! I've always said that children under 18 who do violent acts, the parents should sit in jail right along side of them. Then maybe parents would take their parenting job more seriously.

Yes. A parent has the responsibility of knowing what their kids are up to.
Any teacher who knew about the bullying that usually leads up to school shootings and didn't report it or take action to stop it should also be held responsible.
Anyone who allows weapons to get into the unsupervised hands of a minor should also be tried for negligent homicide.
Anyone who prescribes mind altering drugs to anyone and does not closely monitor them when they know possible side effects should also be held responsible.
The favorite saying by therapists, psychologists, psychiatrists, teachers, and counselors these days is that children have to accept responsibility for their actions. Children are not responsible. When you become a parent, therapist, psychologist, psychiatrist, teacher, or counselor, you are accepting the responsibility of teaching children responsibility. Some learn it when they're twelve. Some learn it when they are 30.
School shootings will stop abruptly when you start putting the adults who are responsible for them in jail.

Yes, parents have heavy responsibility here. We have a 16 year old and we know where he is, what he's doing, who he's hanging around with, and we talk frequently so we know the state of his mind. My husband's hunting rifles are locked up at all times, and my son loves to hunt. But he knows the difference between animals and human beings, because we taught him the difference.
If a kid destroys property, the parents have to pay for that. There should be consequences in this area for the parents as well. I have no sympathy for them, I am sorry but I do not. Irresponsible parenting is one of my pet peeves. If their child is psychologically ill, how can a responsible parent not notice that? There's just no excuse.

Yes parents are accountable but what are you suggesting? If you think the parents should be arrested for what the child does, do you think that would make parents better. I would fear that it could back fire. A lot of bad parenting is a resentment toward the child because the child is a reflection on them. If we extend that resentment by making such a parent think, "that brat could put me in jail," we could only be making worse parents. The law is holding parents accountable. Some children are taken away from their parents. Maybe more should but it is something that shouldn't be done lightly.

Its a shame that there are so many unfit parents walking around today. Parents believe that schools should be raising the kids and it ends up being a daycare for many. Depending on the situation, I think the parents should be held accountable. If you don't know or realize your child is making pipe bombs or planning an attack, just being that out of touch should make you accountable.

Some but in many cases the Governent should be held responsible. Parents today are under threat if they dare try to teach their children respect, and honor and disipline. Too many Government busybodies violating our Constituional Rights. Goverment has no business in Family affairs outside of criminal activity.

Yes we should hold the parents accountable to the extent that they had not identified a problem and sought help for their child. However, if they had done all that was reasonably possible, the child should be considered to be the accountable person.

Yes but societal laws have tied the hands of the parents, the teachers and the police from doing their job. So its a miracle that we don't have a lot more trouble on campus than we do.

parents have responsibilities when they bring a child into the world to rear them according to the laws rules and mores of the society in which they live. this will enable the child to take a responsible position in the society upon entering adulthood.

only if the parents were aware of social or mental problems.
What if the kid is a straight A student and is always perfect. A Kid can snap one day from all that pressure as well with no warning then I would say no because there were no tale tale signs.
If the kid is already a bad seed and has bad grades, always in trouble and the parents don't do anything as far as dicipline than yes they should.
Every situation is different per child and per fmaily
