Water soluble means that it will not coat your hair and can be rinsed out with water. It is the best thing for your hair, you don't want a product that is like wax and that coats your hair. There are many different products that are pomade like. Paul Mitchell used to make a product called Foaming Pomade. Sebastian makes a few different products: Twisted Taffy, Crude Clay and Cyclone, they are all based on the type of look and hold you want. There are many many products out there, check with your stylist to see what he or she recommends for the look you are going for.

the advantage is that is is easier to wash out, you are correct. I like ICE hair wax.
