Be straight honest even if it really hurts the guy/girl. Why do you want to break up with him/her, don't be hesitant, and don't chicken out by saying, "you're a really great guy/girl, BUT. It's better to be honest, because people have to learn to accept even bad news sometimes.

Meet them face to face and tell them the truth, like no matter how bad it is just tell them because it will help them in the future, i've had my fair share of people breaking up with me and they all use the same line 'its not you its me, i think we are just better off as friends etc' and to be honest its bull ****, no one finishes with someone for no reason, so if its cause you feel absolutely nothing for the other person tell them that its just not there for you or if its cause you are not ready for a relationship tell them...basically just be honest and respectful and hopefully it will work out ok.

if they are normal they would like you to be honest, you would want them to be honest with you..don't let it go longer than it needs to or it will get even harder and things might get real mean and nasty..thats what i mean about if they are normal..if you have a crazy one be careful you may want a few people around for a while there is alot of crazy things nowadays..just tell them things are not working out and maybe you should take some time apart but stay friends.

Why do you want to break up? Figure that out and be honest, and gentle if you care about the other person.

Sit them down and tell them exactly what reasons you are breaking up with them. Honestly and clearly. Snap it like a hard pretzel.

Just be honest and respect their feelings. But you will cause more harm staying with someone you don't want to be with, so do it. Staying with them will lead to resentment.
