It seems that from ongoing research there is evidence to suggest that milk thistle protects the liver by blocking potentially harmful toxins. One of the many functions of the liver is to produce bile, which is stored in the gallbladder. Bile breaks down ingested fats but sometimes this isn't enough to prevent the formation of gallstones - a mixture of cholesterol and bile salts.

The health supplement company Solgar (in my opinion) is the best place to look, all their products are thoroughly researched and referenced so that you know exactly what you're taking and why.

Go to herbdoc.com and check out this site for more specifics. Herbs are from nature to provide the wherewithal for sentient life to survive for more than a hundred years. But with the pharmaceutical companies pretty much controlling the way people think about medicine in general you will very rarely hear any doctors telling you that herbs are good for you. Check out this site. The man who started it is the number one herbalist in the entire world.
