What a smug, offensive and xenophobic question. You mean should the Anthem be sung the way YOU think it should? It is a jingoistic, militaristic poem set to an old BRITISH DRINKING SONG that has a range that almost nobody -- including talented professionals -- can sing unless they are half-crocked (it must have been a wonderful British drinking song)... Probably you have heard someone of color or some more 'avant gard' musician do some styling that wasn't what you were traditionally used to hearing. Good for them. It's about time the Star-Spangled Banner (first published by Scott Key as Anacreon in Heaven (after the London pub where the music originated) was scrapped as our national anthem. There are so many better possibilities: My Country, 'Tis Of Thee, America the Beautiful, This Land is Your Land, etc. So, the answer to your question is that THE NATIONAL ANTHEM WAS NEVER WRITTEN TO BE SUNG, the way you want to hear it or otherwise. So whatever singing variation makes it more palatable and tolerable should be welcomed.
