Hello!! :o) I hope you're OK. I'm not talking physically. I'm talking emotionally. Are 'we' - as Christians - supposed to accept the abuses of others?! I've been emotionally abused many times in my life. [Especially so - when I was a kid] And got it into my head - somehow - that a 'good Christian' just 'takes it'. As a consequence - I've always felt emasculated because I never stood up for myself. Are Christians [In your opinion] ALLOWED to defend themselves? [Physically and/or emotionally] IF someone tells me to 'F-OFF' [Or treats me horribly] do I have to smile and walk away like some worm? OR can I tell THEM to F-OFF - TOO? Have a great day!! Craig!! :o)

Man have I been in your shoes. there have been so many times that I could have stooped to their level, but that is exactly what they want you to do so that it hurts your testimony. Also, a pastor that I heard once told me that I should be certain that I don't offend anyone when i witness to them or in everyday situations, because even if the Lord speaks to their hearts, they may not listen to us and thus we have become a stumbling block. My big encouragement when I go through this is Exodus 14:13-14. My paraphrase is to "be quiet and let the Lord handle your battles". Look this scripture up, it will definitely help you.

God Bless You and I will be praying for you. Let Him defend you!

I suggest that you just walk away. Not because you have to take anything from anybody but because YOU are better than them. More intelligent, more sophisticated, Just better. The person who uses profanity to get their point across is obviously less in touch with themselves and more worried about what others think. if you live your life this way then you will never be happy. So walk away and don't give them the satisfaction even of a reply to their obvious attempts at pushing you into a pointless fight. YOU are better than them. They are weak YOU are strong. Peace.

Turn the other cheek?

No one says being a Christian is easy. It isn't. Jesus asked his followers to spread his message, teach all nations.

Jesus tell us that following him will require everything that we have. Following him is documented in the New Testament. Show me one place in the Gospels that Jesus needed to responded in anger to anyone. In fact, the only time Jesus got angry is with the money exchangers in the house of God, the temple. He wasn't angry at exchanging money, but where the money was being exchanged.

What God offers us is written. What we are asked to do is written. Why have you not read what is written? Maybe it is time for you to rethink your life? Because you have lots of work ahead.

of course you should stand up for yourself. that is your right as a human being, to tell someone if they are being disrespectful to you. you should be able to feel out a situation and respond if its appropriate, or walk away if that is the right thing to do.

there is nothing wrong with shrugging it off when someone is mean to you- rather than feeling emasculated perhaps you could see it that you are forgiving them for their wrongdoings. however, if you feel the need to speak up, as long as you do it in a compassionate way i don't see a problem with that.

you should just walk it off or something. God doesn't want us to be mean to others so we shouldn't. and for standing up for yourself it all depends on the situation. if people are calling you names and stuff don't say anything mean back but just ask if they could stop. if they don't ignore them.

this is how I deal with that:

Romans 12:19-21
19Dearly beloved, avenge not yourselves, but rather give place unto wrath: for it is written, Vengeance is mine; I will repay, saith the Lord.

20Therefore if thine enemy hunger, feed him; if he thirst, give him drink: for in so doing thou shalt heap coals of fire on his head.

21Be not overcome of evil, but overcome evil with good.

Well, it's better to be meek, and passive. However, it's not wrong to defend yourself. Just exercise reason.

Someone on this site said that is why Mary was still a virgin. Joseph gave it to her up the wazoo, as you say.
