i used to work in a residential home, where one poor fella used to suffer with it terribly(he scratched that much,he made it bleed),doctors tried numerous creams, but nothing worked, then they sent him for uvb treatment, which contains a wide range of wavelengths, which is used to guttate psoriasis or plaque psoriasis.the aim is to clear the skin, this can take up to 30 treatments, but it really worked for him, which is surprising as he also suffered with depression, which is a vicious circle,ie: you feel stressed, which brings out the psoriasis, then having the psoriasis makes you more stressed, which brings it out more.i also have just found out that i too,now suffer with this condition, but mildly(for the moment)i have been prescribed aqueuos cream which really does moisturise the skin, and also hydrocortisone cream, which helps, the only problem for myself is that i suffer with it on my scalp, which is causing my hair to fall out, very distressing as a female, but again,i try not to get stressed as the more i do,the more hair i'll lose.

I had a 13 year history of psoriasis, though I was in good health otherwise. But these severe large, thick and scaly excoriated plaques on my neck, ears, trunk and limbs ruined the way I was leading my life. I would be with red, inflamed itchy skin for most part of the year and these silvery scales would seem to be erupting without any reason. To make matters worse, blisters would appear over already red and itching skin. It was living hell.

I was treated with various options but nothing seemed to be working. Some of the treatments that I underwent in this depressing period of 13 years included tar preparation, tropical steroids and anthralin. I was also given light therapy many times but everything I tried would give me temporary relief.

And soon, after a few days I would be plagued with the situation again. In one of those moments when I was completely lost I stumbled upon this website just by chance. I read it and felt that as if someone had put the story my life on this web page. I was thoroughly convinced that if ANYONE can cure me of condition, it would be you.

And was I right, or what. I started recovering within 3 days of starting this treatment. Something that had become a painful part of me for 13 years was actually getting healed! My ears are healed and my neck is smooth again!. I am a month into the treatment and I have never felt better in my life!

I have suffered from it for years on my scalp and in my ears...it is particularly worse when I am stressed or upset..which means over the past year it has been horrendous...tried so many different things...dovonex, betnovate. Now my gp has tried me on cocois which I must say has slightly improved it, as long as I keep it up..as soon as I think I am safe to leave treatment off for one week...if flares straight back up...there are quite a few natural remedies too..chammomile,cardamon and milk thistle is good...of course sulphur as well. Napiers Pokeroot ointment and Potters Psorasolve ointment. Your friend needs to take care of diet and household products as well as personal hygieneproducts. There is a psorasis help forum that your friend might be interested in joining for support and advice from other psoriasis sufferers....www.psoriasis-help.org.uk.

Some excellent sites are:
www.psoriasis-association.org.uk/
www.psoriasis-help.org.uk/

I would advise asking for a referral to a dermatologist as they have far more experience than a General Practitioner. They also have access to more effective treatments - targeted UV therapy and medications that are not generally used outside the hospital setting - from tar treatments up to dithranol. They are also more likely to prescribe stronger more effective steroid creams that your GP is likely to as they are more confident in advising you of their uses.

Best Wishes

Hey, I have eczema- which i think is quite similar.
I have always just gone to the doctors and he/she usually prescribes some sort of cream. I have heard that Aqueous cream is very good for any sort of skin condition- or even just dry skin.
Also the links below may be worth a browse.
