NO! NO! NO! NO! ADD and ADHD do not exist. If it does exist we all have it. It is a catch all for every kid problem known to mankind. Don't you find it strange that entire families can be diagnosed with it? Mother, father and all the kids??

Look at the lines in the schools every day of the kids getting their medications. Then they can sit like zombies for the teachers and behave. No one knows what a class clown is any more. They have made sure no one has a personality.

Unless there is a medical reason as some kind of retardation or birth defect there is absolutely no reason for medication.
Here is where I will get bashed........Blame it on the parents. No one has time any more. Most families are two income. Sure they run the kids to practices, ballet, music, etc. and they pick them up, dinner is picked up at KFC or some other fast food place. They get home and everyone goes their own direction in the house.

How much quality time do families spend together? How many kids are on drugs and the parents don't even know? My friend's son faked ADHD to get the drugs and then he sold them to other kids.

This country needs a wake up call. When your kid is naughty, hits other kids, doesn't want to pay attention, grades are bad, is moody and doesn't talk to you doesn't that tell you something? SPEND TIME WITH THE KID. MAKE THE KID RESPONSIBLE FOR HIS/HER ACTIONS. DO NOT BE AFRAID TO DISCIPLINE. DON'T HIT OR ABUSE. If you don't want to give a kid the time they need and deserve, than don't have any!

Kids are kind of like a marriage. You have to work on it constantly to make it work. You have to listen, make time for each other and laugh together. If you have more than one child you must make time for one on one time with each child.

Yes, but I do not think there is a sch thing as OCD, out of a group of 20 kids most of them I have met about 18 have OCD like symptoms or once had, it is just a part of their Psychological well being and phases, now ADD/ADHD is from exposure to things like Drugs and Tobacco maybe bad parents things like that. Yet I am no Shrink.

To answer your question simply. Yes, there is such a thing as ADD/ADHD, as it is in the medical books. And under the government of Canada it is also a legal disability. The funny thing is under the government of Ontario it is not.... I guess they must be asking the same question as you...

NO, I think it is a made up bunch of bull and the drug companies are getting rich off it. Parents don't raise there children like they use too. Take away TV, PC, PS2, ETC. Then make the kids study and involve them with sports and outdoor stuff will resolve the issue that kids don't mind due to there heads are thinking of silly games,

I know there is and I know my brother had it as a child. He displayed the classic signs, but he displayed them in exaggerated form, he wasn't just a little rambunctious, he was uncontrollable. He underwent years of psichiatric evaluation before my mom decided to put him on Ritalin, and it made a world of difference. He's now 19, off the meds and doing great. He would have failed a grade or two in gradeschool without this intervention. I agree that it's over-diagnosed, but that does not mean it doesn't exist.

Well, my fiancee has it and swears it's real. She apparently has her doctor convinced of it, so I kinda have to go along with it. Reality verses perception.... who knows?
