Without a doubt, the USMC has the toughest boot camp amongst US services. It is both physically and mentally challenging. After 12 weeks of boot camp, each new Marine comes out of boot camp the same proportionate size, as every one else. I.E. if you are 5'11' tall, you and every other Marine of that height will be approximately 172# upon graduation day.

You could have been 220# and the guy next to you was 145# when you entered boot camp. You will both be 172# when leaving boot camp, provided you're both 5'11' tall.

This is just one segment of Marine Corps training, but even on size, they're influencing the unit concept. They aren't looking for a bunch of Audie Murphy's out there. They look for teamwork, if you can't be a team player, go join 'the army of one'.

From what I have heard, it is the Marine Corps boot camp. I work in Veterans Services, so I have talked to people from all branches, and it seems that the Marine Corps is the toughest.

Boot camp or basic training is different from other programs such as special forces or officer training.
The toughest basic training seems to be the Marines. The toughest special forces seems to be the Navy Seals followed closely by some special combat pilots. The toughest officer training is arguably West Point for the Army. I say arguably because there is room for other opinions, and it is not definitive. West Point is much more harsh than any prison in developed and some under-developed countries. Principles similar to brain-washing are applied. It is not brain-washing, but it is similar. It develops the mind to be very rigid.
