Years of historical precidence and fear. Luckily that is quickly changing in many cultures. I had a guy once tell me it was okay if I didn't shave my legs to show me how "liberated" I was. I told him that it was my body, my decision. That comment showed his true character and he was tossed on his ear after more than a reasonable amount of cracks like that. Women need to call men on it and eventually they will get it (I hope). I'm married to a guy who occasionally slips and I call him on it, but then I tell him what to do sometimes too and he calls e on it too. so I guess its an equal relationship.
