by saying its not illegal what i mean is, when someone has feelings towards a child but does not act upon them, in the full knowledge that this would harm said child. however, the feelings they do have are undeniable and so they are forced to repress their desires and try to pretend they are "normal" even though there is nothing they can do about it.

I think anyone who has thoughts actioned or non actioned that are inappropriate in a sexual way towards children are sick and evil.
You see news reports where people are arrested and convicted of owning inappropriate material in regards to children. They may of never of acted on thoughts directly and physically, but have affectedly helped to submit a child to an appalling situation that could/may/has caused irreversible mental and physical damage.

I believe that people that have those feelings and do successfully repress their desire to act in any way are just fine, no problem. However, it is pretty difficult to pull off. The subconscious has a lot of influence and control over our behavior. If you are a person who has these types of urges, you have probably done some things; maybe they were harmless, maybe they went unnoticed, but none the less, they were actions that you would not have taken had you not wanted to touch your niece's or nephew's little butt. It's risky for you and the child. I also question the way you phrased the question, "act in an ILLEGAL way". That makes it sound like you think there are legal ways in which a person may act upon their feelings. Dangerous ground. Lastly, if you're talking about viewing child porn, I agree with the others that that is illegal, reprehensible, and harmful.

You mean like the freaky mannequins that Wacko Jacko has all over his house?
That sort of behavior is degenerative especially to the male endorphin geared mind... Once you partake of those images, you can't get them out and the brain grows immune to the effects of just a little here and there and it forces the desire to increase and the ways you come to satisfaction more and more vivid. It simply put is an addiction. Worse than heroin, Worse than Crack or Meth. It is biochemical, it is visual, sensory and the only negative side effect (the things that often make people quit using other drugs) is getting caught.
If you are talking about yourself... You really do need to get help to learn how to abstain all together and never do it again. Your brain will always lie to you and talk you into that; "just once more." or that; "It's not so bad, it doesn't hurt them."
You HAVE to stop... Mark my words... It will get worse because it always DOES get worse. There are no exceptions!
I was abused as a child by a teacher... If that man ever told himself that it didn't hurt me or the other girls he did it to, to be able to live another day in his miserable skin... He was wrong. If I knew where he was today, I would honestly cause him more pain and in more creative ways than Pin Head in Hellraiser II !

firstly,every one who said that paeodophiles are evil etc and should be locked up or shot ,should be discounted straight off,there opinion is not thouhgt out. Every man with a 'normal' sexual preference should think them self lucky they don't lust after kids ,what a curse . I feel very lucky that i can look at child and have no sexual feelings, if some one does have these feelings then they need too see a doctor but it would be hard,imagine tomorrow being told that sex with women was now illegal and also looking at porn was banned to.On the way to the age of 31 my sex drive has driven me into the most bizarre situations and i consider my self in the normal catagory, pent up sexual frustration is a nightmare,imagine it being illegal to sort it out. I wouldn't wish on anyone.

Its generally accepted that it is taboo to be attracted to children. If you act on these feelings that's worse, but people are offended and disturbed that someone has these ideas/thoughts/feelings/desires in the first place. The norm is to be attracted to someone close to your own age. Children are relatively helpless and cannot defend themselves or make decisions in the same way that adults can, so someone who exploits this is considered a predator. Once again, I dont know if it makes you a bad person just for having the feelings, but it makes people uncomfortable that someone would have the desire.

They are mentally ill people. I would not say they are bad unless they did act upon their feelings in any way that would harm (physically or mentally) others. We all have to practice self control, they are no exception. Unfortunately, I think that some convince themselves that the child wants they same things they do and do not recognize the immense anguish they cause by acting upon their feelings.

If people who develop sexual feelings towards children never act upon those feelings in any way (including the use or handling of pornographic material) throughout the whole of their lives, then they cannot (at least, not legally) be judged by their paedophilia. Thought is not a crime, no matter how bad, unless you live in Nazi Germany/Stalin's Russia - and now Putin's, interestingly - er....and anywhere else where the nature of your thoughts can get you killed/God knows.

why are they not bad people even if they dont act upon those feelings. paedophiles thinking about children is still not good and does make them bad people. human beings shouldnt be thinking like that about children full stop it's a absolute disgrace.

Does it meet a definition of pedophelia if there is no action? If feelings remain internal and are never realized, is there sin/offense/legal issue?
How's this: if you have only ever had heterosexual experiences but fantasize about the same sex, are you bisexual?
My belief is that it is the action that defines a person, not the thought or feeling.

I dont think that paedophiles,who dont ever do anything to children are bad people but mentally sick.When they do do things to children they are still mentally sick and near impossible to cure.Prison and councilling does'nt help many of them, so the ones that do interfere with children should never be let out of prison.J
