Did the catholics build their churches so as to resonate with the singing and produce mind-altering effects on the brains of people?

(Thus proving they have no need for a real God with actual real powers.)?

--Is Catholic--

Your banal comments not withstanding, Catholic architecture is heavily influenced by the styles of the cultures that it inhabited. Catholic Churches done in the Roman style look like any other Roman building. There are some styles that come out of Christendom, but even these are influenced by contemporary society, even if Catholicism helped to shape the society's atheistic. You have to remember that Churches are the product of a community's love for God and it is the bringing of their own talents and ideas, and not simply a design imposed on people by "the Church".

There are some symbolic aspects of a Catholic Church which help to shape the design, but we need not get into those.

Your question is about acoustics. You must remember that only recently did we develop microphones and speakers. All large public building were in fact designed so that a person speaking could be heard by everyone in the building. So yes, the acoustics were taken into account and the buildings were designed for people to be able to hear both the priest and the choir.

You question assumes any attention to acoustics was for the purpose of "producing mind-altering effects on the brains of people. As far as I know, such psychological theories did not exist at the time, never mind put into practice as you seem to be implying.

Second, you have to be able to prove at all Catholic Churches have been constructed that way. Good luck.

I believe the resonance in the space is a nice side-effect. Large churches of all denominations are built to provoke a feeling of awe that is to be transferred to the God in whose honor it was constructed. I don't think they would jump to the conclusion that this omits the need for a real God, but you can do so if you like.
