The human body is susceptible to the decreasing amount of sunlight caused by the shorter days of winter. According to Wikipedia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Seasonal_depression the causes could be several, ranging from a decreased output of serotonin to a decreased level of melatonin. The truth is, the symptoms go away with light therapy. This means you get a sun lamp and bask indoors under it during winter months or you get out as often as possible in the sun during winters.

There is actually an illness called SAD - that stands for seasonal affective disorder. It is generally a deficiency of Vitamin D that is normally gotten from adequate sunlight - people in really rainy places like Seattle can also suffer from it. They make special lights that also help this condition.

You are thinking about Seasonal Affective Disorder. This problem arises during winter months when sunlight is shorter in duration and people tend to stay indoors. Many have been treated with artificial light with success.

there is a lot less sunlight in the winter and that is the main cause. You can buy a special lamp or light that will simulate sunlight and helps a lot with overcoming depression. Also the weather in the winter is more severe and people tend to stay indoors more and dont get out as much to socialize. But mainly with shorter days and less light they become depressed.

Probably due to them getting less sunlight in the winter which triggers SAD (Seasonal affective disorder). Its down to the chemicals in the brain. Like plants, us humans need sufficient light to feel well & good about ourselves. This prob also explains why people get more colds and feel more run down during winter months.
