I would say wait until at least after Christmas, the stations that are now sending out HD are still in the first stages of it and until it is perfected a little more I would wait. I just switched to digital cable and they send out signals in HD which I do not have but the store people told me the quality of my picture should be even better than before. Shop around and see for yourself. A friend has HD and he says the quality is better but he says that for a lot of his stuff which I know to be not true.

To me, paying extra for a little bit clearer picture is a moot point.

We had an HD tv for a bit and were pulling the pics off air. Yeah, some were as crisp as pictures, but all in all, to me, it was not worth the time or money for the upgrade.

For the average tv watcher, the standard NON HD tv's are fine. On a tv fanatic, or purist would blow that kind of money for so little in return, in my opinion. Mind you, this is just my opinion.Look over the HD tv's and seen if they are worth it to you.

If you`re changing your telly make sure it is fully HD ready to future proof it, but as regards current HD content (Sky HD etc) it`s very meager. On balance unless you`re really into latest tech or not worried by extra cost, I would wait a while.

If you have local stations transmitting HDTV it is ABSOLUTELY worth having it, even if you have cable or satellite....because you can hook up an outside antenna and get all your network syndicated shows in Hi Def, while waiting for Cable/Satellite to become more affordable.....and of course still watch all the Standard Def shows on Cable/Sat.....

PLUS.....HDTV will become a reality in 2009 supposedly....that's when they turn off all the Lo-Def signals.....BUT the FCC rule is that the TV stations can only turn off their LO-Def transmissions when 80% of the local market OWNS Hi-Def TVs......So at the latest, 2012 is the Final Curtain Call for SDTV (Lo-def)

don't waste your money, on something as trivial as that, unless you have extra to burn. But whats wrong with your old tv.
