I give clothes to charity all the time and I contribute food as often as I can. My friends and I have gone in together to buy special Thanksgiving dinners for families in need. I have several charities who get regular contributions from me every month, including a couple of animal charities. I feel good about helping everyone and every animal I can.

I give money, usually whenever they ask me to. I don't give a lot of "stuff" unless they specifically request something that I know I have. Our local animal shelter was in need of some everyday household items, and we had plenty of what they needed, so that was an example of giving something material, but like I said, I don't usually do that unless I know for certain what they need. I'm on the advisory board for our local Salvation Army, and people try to give us all kinds of crazy stuff. My experience with the Salvation Army has taught me to ask the organization before I give them anything, just to keep from wasting my time and theirs.

And if I may add, every organization like Salvation Army needs manpower. Warm bodies, to help us do the work. All these organizations need the money, and are always greatful for it. But if you have an hour or two a week to give of yourself, it will be appreciated.

anything i that i see other people who are less fortunate than me might need. money and my time too. anyone can give money up, but to actually give up some of your time to help others helps you feel better. it helps me tons to know that my labor will directly help a family. i don't have that doubt that this money will go to someone who will misuse my contribution.
