can someone state clearly what my teacher means by manners?

let me use it in the sentence he gave us
"depict ways in which womens lives changed in these areas during the 1920's depicting fashion,"manners",housework,fa... jobs.

I think manners in this sense refers to behavior and etiquette. If you describe the manners of women of the Victorian era, you will see they are very different from those women who called themselves "flappers" in the 1920s. They were much less inhibited.

I think he means the way women conducted themselves socially. For example - they were educated in table manners, and how to properly entertain guests. In the twenties some young women rebelled against strict rules of deportment and the "flappers" shocked society with their drinking, smoking and above the knee dresses.

One things for sure, he wasn't referring to how the sista's had to live! As far as the Caucasian women "manners" is basically speak when spoken too, obey your husband and serve him, stay home and take care of the children, dress nicely, keep up appearances, you get the general idea. For poor Caucasian women it was different of course because life was harder but generally the rules or "manners" were the same.
