Children's museums, aquariums, civic theaters for youth based shows, library excursions, at home movie night, many campgrounds have cabins with heat, make a special game night, or even craft night, just get together a mall hop - playing with all the toys in the store

Depending on where you live (i've never been here) but your kids are probably just about the right age for Santa's Village in New Hampshire. I heard its pretty cool. Another thing is if they were a bit older (maybe 12/10) take a trip across the country.
Try looking for an indoorsy kind of thing like a kids museum or perhaps if you don't have a lot of money, go to the McDonald's play pen

Since this is Fall, there are alot of pumpkin patches & cider mills, around--maybe there are some nearby you too--kids love these places and I do, too...or another fun thing to do is make cookies together...though I don't know what a 1 year old can really do...or you can go to parks or play board games at home...check the newspaper--ours is filled with family friendly activities sponsored by local civic organizations-these usually cost very little or nothing.

My husband and I are the same age as you and our children are almost the same ages-. We kind of fell into the same rut and decided to get out and see what we could do together. We took the kids with us to a charity walk and pushed the baby in the stroller and our older one walked with us. We are going to the pumpkin patch next weekend. We have also been to the children's museum. Sometimes we go to the mall just so that they can ride the carosel and we can eat pretzels! My older one really likes the movies too. Check out if there are any caves to visit right now- that is always fun too. Go to your tourist center in your county and they have lots of brochures on events and things to do in the area.

If you live near the coast, that was always a nice family outting. Stay the night too, it's a nice way to get away from home.
The mountains for a day in the snow with innertubes is a good time.
You might have to wait a couple years for this, but going to a waterslide park is fun.

Movies, mall, go to the track and walk. Even though its getting cooler a walk is a great way to pass the time. Take up roller blading its good exercise and can be done with a jacket and warm clothing during the fall. Have fun.

you know whats fun, just bundeling the kids up and take them for a walk, and maybe stop for hot cocoa. it is fun, and dosnt cost much. thats what we do with our kids. and were broke, money wise. also have the kids pick up nature things like fallen leaves or pine cones, and then go home and put them in a collage on construction paper.
