Plasma TVs WILL Burn a Non-moving image into the phosphor.
LCD will not have this problem.
Choose LCD for reliability too.
Any good name of LCD will do you well, just don't try to purchase a Volux or Snitzu or some Unknown name brand made in China...you get what you pay for.

Now Sonys do have an RGB/Computer connection built into their models....specifically the SRX (SXR) models....these are not LCD, but LCOS TVs, which eliminates the "little squares" seen on less expensive sets.

I have a LCD display with my computer and love it. We also sell a lot of LCD TVs where I work and I like the RCA's. It is really a matter of personal preference. Go to a store that has a lot of TVs set up and running and compare pictures etc. Your going to spend some serious $ cause they are all still expensive. Hopefully prices will go down either right before or after Christmas.
