Well, it's true, what's inside you makes an impact. But concerning your hair as it's own entity, the shine factor lies in the cuticle. Naturally, when the cuticle lies flat, your hair reflects more light. Like mentioned above, after conditioning, make your final rinse with cool water. Also, if you're going to blow-dry, give your hair time to air-dry before applying the heating element. Less exposure time causes less damage. Use the warm setting, with the air flow pointing down your hair strands. A shine serum applied last will finish and seal the work you've put into your hair already. If your hair is fine, apply the serum only to the hair about 2 inches or more away from your scalp -- this will help keep you from looking greasy and stringy.

For the most part, you can't really "heal" damaged hair, but you can appear to "mend" it. Try getting a trim as well -- getting rid of those ruined tips can make quite a difference.

Good luck!

Washing your hair with cold water really works. Even though you have stopped straightening your hair you can still get heat damage from the water when you wash your hair. If I am going out somewhere nice i will always wash my hair with cold water, It gives it a lovely shine!!
If you follow the advice of the people who say to use raw egg on your hair then you really must make sure that you wash it out with cold water or you'll have a head full of scrambled egg!!!

Lots and lots of expensive things on the market but before you go to a hairdressers and pay a fortune just try an old fashioned remedy that I know you will be amazed at and that is a product called VITAPOINTE. all you do is squeeze a little on to your hand ,rub your hands together and pat on to your hair . It will make it feel great and give it a fantastic shine ,it also controls any flyaway hair . Go on give it a try and its cheap to buy also

Apply raw egg yolk to the hair and leave for twenty minutes, then rinse off with warm water and shampoo your hair with a mild shampoo and rinse with cold water, add a few drops of vinegar to the final rinse. Wonderful shiney hair. And use the white of the egg on you face. Apply like a face pack.. real treat and makes you skin feel soft and fresh.

Use some shine serum or something like that. A deep moisturising treatment wouldn't hurt either.

There's an old myth that brushing your hair 100 times before you go to bed every night makes it shiny too. That could be true because it encourages your hair's natural proteins.

Get a bottle of Vit E oil, from any health food store, a bottle of geranium essential oil.

Measure out 10ml of Vit E oil, and add about five drops of essential oil, into a heat resitant container, then place this container in a bowl of hot water, not boiling, when oil is hot add rub into the hair, paying special attention to the ends, wrap in a warm towel, and leave on as long as possible, prefrably overnight, do this once a week and you should notice a difference.

When it comes to washing out, apply shampoo first, before water, rub in plenty of shampoo, before adding the water, otherwise it wont come out properly.

Honestly.... try the new Pantene Pro V Ice Shine, I have been using it for a few weeks now and have even got compliments on how nice my hair looks and the nice shine it has. It seriously works, I have noticed a change and I still straighten my hair.

The best way to have shiny hair is to use good products on it.-ie
stuff you get from hairdressers. Shampoo and conditioners by Lanza, matrix, tigi,a bit more expensive than superdrug but the results are worth it.

You are going to think this is weird but as a kid my mom used to wash my hair and put mayonaisse and one beaten egg. Let it sit for about 20-30 minutes. It helps to restore natural oils and shine to your hair. Believe me when I say it works.
