I think it's happened to all of us at some point in our youths.

What was the reason mommy/daddy/aunty/grandma/etc. forced you to get a new look?

Thought it'd look cute?

As a punishment?

Let's hear what you guys have to say on the subject!

Yah, one of my stepmothers went to beauty school so dad wants to save money and have her cut it. I was going into the sixth grade. She whacked my hair off, it was supposed to be feathered. I was so p****d off. It never occurred to me that it was some way of getting to me for any reason, but who knows. She was #3 wife and she is long gone. Been 6 all together.

Well nothing is worse than what my mom made me do...she made me get a curl...so there I was in elementary school looking like Michael Jackson by the head...and don't let me have played in gym that day...all the juice would dry out my curl and leave a poofy mess...when i got to high school I had to take a bottle of aactivator along so it would not get dry...all this because my momma decided to wait 13 years to have another girl...and "forgot" how to do hair...I think I am scarred for life... :(

I guess my kids are lucky that way - I hold that hair is the simplest thing to change how you like it. As long as its clean and bug free either of my kids can do what they want with their style. I was brought up this way too. Now as far as piercings and tattoo's go - well once they are an adult and out from under my roof - then they have a choice. But, hair - is so easily changed....

My mom used to be a beautician, and when she would find a new guy's hairstyle she wanted to learn, guess who was the test head. I have had more shitty hairstyles in my life than I can count, I think that's why I shave my head now, keeps those memories and emotional scars buried. That and I already lost most of my hair anyway. So if any of you reading this are in the hair cutting profession...leave your family out of your business please.

Yes, when I was in 4th grade I was made to get a Perm. It was Christmastime and my mom gave me and my sisters the choice or perms or toys (obviously it was a pretty poor Christmas for us). My little sister had her heart set on a perm so to keep it "fair" all three of us girls got perms. We had long straight blonde hair and it was absolutely fried by the chemicals. And when Christmas morning came and there were no toys we were reminded we'd already gotten our gift. :(

Months later it was growing out and I started to like it, then my mom made me get it all cut off. "Because it was damaged." she said. Then I looked like a little boy.

Growing up I had my hair long, really long. It reached my knees, and I hated it. My mom said it was beautiful and that's why she never let me cut it.

I grew up, then I chopped it all off. Short hair is awesome!!! It is really who I am. A few years back I actually shaved all of my hair for awhile and Ive never felt freer.
