Decide if you like your plant or your carpet better! :-)

I really don't know a good answer for this, as I tend to spoil my cats rotten and let them do whatever they way. My sofa is in shreds because I figure "hey it's just a couch, they can scratch it if they want, I can get a new one when they are all in kitty heaven"

OK, so to seriously try to help you .... is the plant poisonous to the kitty? If not, I'd probably let him chomp on it if he wants to. Maybe if the plant is available to him all the time, he will eventually get bored with it.

Another idea (but this is very drastic and expensive) is to replace your carpeting in your house with hardwood floors, then you can close your bedroom door and the scratching wouldn't hurt.

Find out if the plant is poisonous! What really matters is that your cat doesn't get sick. If it is, consider making a "No Cats Zone" and put it in there. If not, put it out of the cat's reach, and possibly get a large box you can put over it. Don't spray Bitter Apple on plants, it could kill them. If you buy some cat grass and put it in your room, the cat might be distracted by that and leave the plant alone. Also put some cat nip near the cat grass. If you can't bear to do any of that, and want to keep the cat out (which is fine), get a rubber mat and put it outside your door. Also, a scratching post might help. Talk to your vet about getting caps that go on your cat's claws. They're painless, and they just pop off when it's time to clip the cat's nails!

May I suggest putting your cat in the garage at night or putting him/her in a room that has no carpet on the floor. Either that or maybe get rid of the plant. Or is your plant more precious to you than your four legged buddy? Anyway, I hope you find a solution as I am a cat lover at heart.

If it is an inside cat he may need the chlorophyll that is found in the plant. Try giving him some catnip.
It may be that he just wants to be with you. Can't you put the plant some where else? Make sure that plant is not poisonous to cats. Put that plant else where and put a Spider plant in there. He can eat that safely and I doubt if he will kill it off. My cats have never killed mine off.

You can spray the plant with bitter apple which you can get at a pet store and let him come in.

You can get an outdoor mat and put it in front of the bedroom door at night.

You could try a pet repellent bought at a pet store. You could spray it on the carpet in front of your door. I've used plain old water in a spray bottle. It's instant and they don't like it at all. Very effective.

what kind of plant is it? check and make sure it isn't poisonous for him, but you could try to get a plant for the cat, like cat grass or catnip, that he would be more interested in. after a while, maybe he wouldn't even be interested in your other plant...

first of all, do you are able to pass emissions? because of the fact in case you do, you are able to desire to maintain a cat, inventory or otherwise... yet you knew that already! one undertaking that I truthfully have seen is to opposite the cat, so the exhaust flows by way of backwards. a pal did that in the process his ninety 8' Chevy a million/2 ton, he nonetheless exceeded emissions, and it additionally made the truck louder. i do no longer think of that it gave him to any extent further ability, yet did no longer harm it even with the incontrovertible fact that the two. you are able to desire to take it off altogether, yet just to for worn you, that's unlawful besides. the only undertaking to contemplate in the previous doing something. Do you have oxygen sencors after your cat? in case you do, you will initiate throughing codes after doing any of the innovations pronounced above. It was once you are able to desire to purchase dumby oxygen sencors which you deliver fake "sturdy" readings to the ECM, yet EPA close that down.
