Open General means that you are going to go in as the needs of the Air Force. Meaning whatever job the Air Force needs filled... Well thats going to be you. I have no idea what that is as I have never served in teh Air Force. Have received rides for them many times but never served in the Air Force.
The easiest way for you to decide what job to go into in the Air Force is to decide ... What do you want to be when you grow up?? Then you will have an idea of what to go for with the Air Force. Narrow your ideas down to a couple and see the recruiter. Aim High... And Thank You for your future service to our Country.

If you have a job preference you might want to mention that to your recruiter. I am also in the DEP for the USAF, I leave Nov. 21 under Mechanical Aptitude. If you are being put or are choosing to go in under general aptitude, you might want to do some research on the jobs you qualify for with your ASVAB that you might like. You will be asked what job you want when you get through basic. If you choose to quick ship then any job that comes down good or bad could be what you leave for. My best advice, talk to your recruiter about the jobs you qualify for, and do some research of your own. There are several ways to find out the jobs that you can qualify for and what all they entail.

No because they will probably try to make you a security cop and that is the last job you want. They get to sit on guard post way way too much!! When I was in
Kuwait they had to work 17 days on 1 off 12 to 14 hrs a day just sitting there looking out over the desert trying to be alert against an attack they knew was not coming. You have to have a certain type of mind set to be able to tolerate that type of job. They had it almost as bad when I was in Saudi Arabia but they had a few more functions to perform and less time on duty. Pick an AFSC that matches some interest you have. Transportation, Civil Engineering , Command Post, Aerial Port, lots of choices but they are always short of Security Police

There are quite a few jobs available under the General Aptitude category. It is still based on your General score on the ASVAB. You should have gotten a printout showing which jobs you are eligible for. Best thing is to get with your recruiter or go to the Air Force site: paste this in the address bar http://www.airforce.com/careers/enlisted/careers.php
and look General field.
Good Luck.

It doesn't matter. The Air Force will make that decision for you anyway.
Only the Army can guarentee you the job you want.
