According to the AKC both parents must be AKC or the litter will not be recognized...
A litter is eligible for registration if:
It is the result of a mating between an AKC-registered Sire (male) and an AKC-registered Dam (female) of the same breed.
It is whelped (born) in the U.S.A, its possession or territories (Puerto Rico, Virgin Islands, Guam, and the Marianna Islands).

No the puppies won't be AKC registerable. In order to register a litter as AKC both parents MUST be AKC registered themselves.
If you are thinking of breeding please do so responsibly.Make sure that both parents not only are AKC reg. (Being AKC doesn't necassarily mean the dogs are good quality all it means is that both are registered), but also have health testing (not just simple vet exams), temperament testing, research pedigrees carefully, have both parents either shown/pointed or evaluated to see if they meet the breed standard and are breed worthy. All of this is just as important for pet puppies as it is for show puppies. Make sure that you are adding something more to the breed then just simply producing a litter of puppies.

The only way you can register the litter with the AKC is if the father is able to be AKC registered. If he is registered with a registry that the AKC accepts, like a foreign registry (FCI, CKC (Candadian Kennel Club), SKJ), ect... Otherwise, you are out of luck. Look for a good stud dog that has his health certifications, and is AKC registered to use with your *****.

According to the AKC website, in order for the litter to be AKC registered, both parents must be AKC. If either the sire or dam is not, they must first apply & be granted AKC status. This allows for the registration of imported dogs from other countries to allow for an AKC litter.
However, if the sire-to-be is not AKC due to disquallifications (his parents were not both AKC), I do not believe he could apply & be granted registration. If both of his parents were AKC & the breeder did not register the litter, you could contact the AKC to see what procedures might allow him to be registered at this late date.

Why would you want to breed to a non AKC sire. That just doesn't make sense. If a person had an outstanding non registered female maybe it would make sense, but there are enough not just registered but TITLED sires of any breed out there to choose from.
But to answer your question,, no, both parents must be registered. (I normally wont breed unless both are Champions and have all the health clearances)
The reality is that it is only normal that everyone thinks their dog is special, and thus should be bred, when in reality very few dogs come under the heading of being special.
Dogs like this are candidates for breeding

Both parents MUST be AKC reigstered - not just "eligible" to be reigstered.
DON'T BREED IF YOU DON'T KNOW THIS.
Just because a dog is "AKC REGISTERED" does NOT mean that they are worthy of being bred because they are a superior example of their breed. It just means that you can trace their family tree.
