I just got a 2007 Nissan Versa and it's called a hatchback, not a SUV. Consider how she's going to use the car. You know the miles she'll be driving and this car gets 28 city and 36 hwy. It seats four very comfortably and 5 if needed. It also has some storage in the back for her books, and athletic equipment. Full air bags too so you won't worry so much. It has a lower profile and is safer than a SUV (I agree to the previous entries, they aren't the safest choice for a new driver) The Versa also steers great too and has great visibility and easy to park. I've had over 16 cars in my life, I'm under 60 but over 50 and I traded in a luxury sedan for this one. Best car by far. You can get a base model for about 13,000 and I think the highest priced one is about 16,000. And no, I'm not a dealer. I just think this is a great choice for your girl and you should at least test drive one and see for yourselves.

a Ford or a Chevy. Older model, safety checked, low mileage would be the best.
But this not going to make you broke, your Insurance rates will.

I am an insurance agent, and I know you haven't check the Insurance rates yet. If you did, you would be asking "what type of vehicle would be less expensive to insure, for a youthful driver?"

My answer would be the same. Get an older but safe American car. Something you can afford to lose, so just get liability coverage. After a year or 2,you can get her a nicer vehicle with full coverage.

Teens shouldn't be driving SUV's. Their higher center of gravity is dangerous as it is. Put it in the hands of an inexperienced 16 year old and you've got the makings of an accident. They are more likely to make quick movements with the steering wheel due to distractions, goofing off or when over correcting for a mistake.

Please see the link below for guidance. Your teen may want an SUV, but I bet you want them to grow up and have families of their own one day even more.

SUVs have a really high crash rate with teens. She is way better off with a nonsporty sudan. All this said, you can save money by buying a used vehicle. I would suggest you try autotrader.com and the classified ads of your local newspaper.

An SUV, kind of spoiled isn't she? What is it with parents totally spoiling their children these days? What does a teen learn about life when their parents give them everything?

You didn't say what she will be doing with it, but for a MidSized SUV, I would look at the Subaru Forrester, or the all new GMC Acadia, Pontiac Torrent, or a GMC Envoy.

Get her a chevy blaizer S-10.
Small, but roomie.
good on gas, and they are generally 10-15 grand.
Also, dodge durangos, you can pick up a 2000 for 10 grand.

Best bet, SHOP AROUND.....
LOOK AT AT LEAST 15 DIFFERANT CARES, ONCE YOU LIKE A MODEL. DIFERANT LOTS=DIFFERANT PRICES. BETTER DEALS SHOP AROUND.

If you dont know what youre looking at youre going to get screwed.

Example. 2002 chevy silverado 2500 HD. 20,000 grand right?
WRONG dealerships getem for 10,000-14,000
Be informed.
