My guess (I have no sources to cite) is that legal immigrants are MORE likely to become millionaires. My reasoning is that they've come here to America to make a better life for themselves, and work very hard to achieve that.

On the other hand, we have a great number of "entitlement-minded" people in our homegrown citizenry, folks who like to live off the welfare system (I personally know one family who is into the 3rd generation of welfare!), or who feel that too many low-level jobs are beneath them (hence fueling the illegal immigration situation).

Just my opinion, and no specific sources other than my common sense!

One in every nine Indians in the US is a millionaire, comprising 10% of US millionaires. (Source: 2003 Merrill Lynch SA Market Study).

Immigrants do have more "drive" to succeed on entering another country, yes. Its phycological more than anything else! and they have a need to prove themselves to their families they left back home. I hear of many instances where an Immigrant has failed in a new country and does not want to go home for feelings of failure and shame. Some have killed themselves because of it.
