Use clippers to keep them as short as possible. Paint them with a thick plastic nail polish or alternatively, keep putting that nasty nail polish remover on them. Wear gloves. Wear thimbles. Wear thick fake nails. Sit on your hands. Chew on candy.

The source of finger nail chewing is usually stress and that is an absent minded habit to go to. Some people twirl their bangs. Some people carry beads to click. Some people pull on their lip or pinch themselves. Most everyone does SOMETHING like this, and yours is just nail biting. Maybe try to see what other people are doing and pick one you like, and kind of force yourself into another habit.

I bit my nails for all of my childhood and most of my adulthood.
One day I just stopped, it was weird. I got tired of my hands looking like dog dung. It is embarressing and people do notice.
When you feel the urge, DO SOMETHING ELSE with your hands. Clean, do dishes, take a walk, eat, anything but chew.
Your hands are the dirtiest part of your body. Germs germs and more germs. Keep washing them even. When you chew your nails your eating all those germs. Think of that and that will help you too
Good luck

In psychology 101, they said that a good way to stop doing a bad habit is to have a rubber band on your wrist and every time you perform the bad habit, you snap the rubber band (hard enough to hurt) and in theory, your bad habit should subside b/c you are deterred by the consequence.
Good luck - gel nails worked for me.

me too...i bite them every second....
the hot sauce thingy doesn't work at all....
well basically what my doctor said is that bititng my nails is a like a tic i created because of stress and she gave me the options of finding a new tic....
she gave me these ball i always squeeze when i feel like biting my nails i always remember i have my ball so my nails have gotten longer form time to time and my friends also remind me about it...you could your friends to encourage you....

and if you want them to grow there is special nail polish...my doctor gave me this one that has calcium or somthing like that...and it makes your nails grow and has a terrible taste so everytime i try to bite my nails i feel that horrible taste....so it someitmes keeps me from bititng them...

but i haven't stopped biting them even if i taste the nail polish...I guess it's in my blood or something i don't know if that's your case....

use natural vanilla on your nails..it smells wonderful, but you wouldn't believe the taste! (it has to be natural, artificial doesn't work)
