No. Law enforcement do not deal with the mentally challenged therefore there is no need for padded cells. In Columbus, Ohio we have a mental health system called Netcare. It is not a locked down facility & they don't keep people on a permanent basis. I don't believe they have padded cells either. They treat mental health emergencies & get people back on their meds. Unfortunately, local law enforcement are forced to waste time being taxi services in these types of situations. We don't actually house them thank God!

Ha! The treatment of the mentally ill in the prison system is a real shame. Most jails do not have any idea how to care for persons with mental illness. And so many mentally ill people end up in jail. It can be very hard for a person to get their medicine and so they act out and that is perceived by the jail staff as bad behavior.
Our prison system is the biggest warehouse for the mentally ill in this country.

Our cells do not but then again I work a pop. 600 town. We just use video to monitor them. The violent suspects usually go to county vs. local where they do have a limited number of padded cells reserved for the more violent criminals who are at a higher risk of trying to hurt themselves.

I have never seen one that did,
I will assume if a department has a lot of mental health people, they could, but I have been in dozen of police departments and many jails and prisons and I have never seen a padded room

Most do. It is for the safety of high agitated prisoners. Those that are violent , mostly intoxicated ones, have been known to pound their heads on hard objects. Generally they are closely monitored (Video) so that they cannot hurt themselves.

Sometimes one. They usually just restrain someone out of control, not a pretty picture.
