It depends where you live. In general, you have to make an application in the appropriate court if you want to make the change official. Most simply use their westernized name in everyday use, but for official purposes, they retain their original birth name. None of my business, but you should keep your name, people have to get used to the new world and all its ethnic and cultural diversity.

Keep your name as Yang. We already got to many "Jon, Mattews" in this country anyways. Yang is cooler, and be proud of your ethic background.

My parents got their american names in High School while in China. If you really want to change your name, then I recommend you going to City Court (or whatever court) and filing a report on changing your name. Remember, think hard about this. Use a unique name, although I think your Chinese name is awesome. Mine is Wei Shing. It means rejoice. Good Luck.
