I'm not talking about subjective questions like what's better coke or pepsi. I'm talking about questions like what is mustard? Mustard is etc.. here is a website with a recipe. and someone gives the answer a thumbs down.

Somebody asked for a recipe for rouille, i provided a link to the food network. I am a chef, I know this recipe works and I get a thumbs down? I didn't mind the thumbs down when someone asked what goes good with spaghettios and i said a garbage can. hey that's my opinion you don't have to agree. This was a genuine recipe for what the person wanted.

Yes, it's rather frustrating. It's also frustrating when the person asking the question picks a clearly wrong answer as the best answer and there is no way of having a further discussion on that topic, as it is then closed to additional answers. Thank you for asking this question so I could "vent" :)

It was probably because you gave a web site instead of giving your own recipe, even if your recipe comes from that web site. Anyone can go to a web site and look the recipe up for themselves, but when you write the recipe out yourself, no matter where it comes from, it seems more personal, especially here at Yahoo Q&A.

As for recipes, maybe they are giving the thumbs down because they have tried that recipe or a similar one & it wasn't to their liking. Then again they may give the thumbs down because the answer is not very acurrate but it has some correct information... But who knows, some may just be rude & bored!!! I mean you have seen some of the questions & answers on here, sometimes a snide answer is all there is to answer the question...just to keep from being totally mean I guess....

because they want to be right, i get them all the time just because someone doesnt like what i have to say even though it is correct, i also think when it goes to public voting the up and down has something to do with it so if you give everyone else a thumbs down you may win

A thumbs down is a disagree with the answer according to that person.
A thumbs up is the opposite.
Just a matter of opinion.
