if the above mentioned statement is true then i do not agree with this. because sound does not sound as a word without being given a meaning by someone.and it is obvious that none was there to give any meaning to that sound .so it was not a word. it was a pure sound only. so my the conclusion is this that first there was the sound , not the word --as the bible says. and my concept has been validated by hindus, 10 gurus from punjab- india, budha and many more that OM IS THE BASIC SOUND OF UNIVERSE.either i can be right or the bible. what do you think?

Yes, the Bible roughly states what you have written. This is what I understand it to mean. The "word" was instruction given by Heavenly Father and through that instruction has everything on this earth been done. It's creation, the creation of Man and later Christ coming and atoneing for our sins.

sufiesidhi,
There has been doubt amongst people for quite a long time. Doubting God is not new.

But let's see, okay?

Genesis 1:3 And God said, Let there be light: and there was light.
The word "said"
H0559 'amar -- pronounced: aw-mar'

a primitive root; to say (used with great latitude): KJV -- answer, appoint, avouch, bid, boast self, call, certify, challenge, charge, + (at the, give) command(-ment), commune, consider, declare, demand, X desire, determine, X expressly, X indeed, X intend, name, X plainly, promise, publish, report, require, say, speak (against, of), X still, X suppose, talk, tell, term, X that is, X think, use (speech), utter, X verily, X yet.

Well, your case gets suddenly weaker. If there was sound, then okay, but the will was necessary, and the verb 'to speak' was incorporated within the text.

Then there is the idea that is supported by science, that there must be a conductor for the sound, for us it's the atmosphere, correct? So the question arises, did God have to have an atmosphere? I think not. I am persuaded that God needs nothing, He's God!

So there may have been a sound, but the word in scripture is as I have already shown, to speak.

The verse actually says,
To say Elohim to say, to exist illumination. To exist illumination. According to my Strong's numbers Bible.

i belive that the term "word" here is used as a name for something else. youve got to remember that even though you are reading the bible in english that it was not writen for our current language. so all the words, synonyms and such will be in almost a code. through study of the bible comparing different versus to each other, through out the entire bible including new and old testement, I believe the term "word" here to refer to christ and his work on earth. if you want to critize and really dig into the bible first you must trully understand the orginal words used. If you can find it i recommend a softwear "the sword". It utilzes many different bible study programs and books as well as many differnent translations as well as the orginal.

Another "How many angels can dance on the head of a pin?" question. Not that I take any of this theological quibbling seriously, but, couldn't you consider "OM" as a word, and therefore, THE word from which the others flow? Couldn't that reconcile the conflict?

Kind of the same lines of "if a tree falls in the forest, will anybody hear?".

Just because there was the Word, it does not mean it has to be spoken to be heard. God created everything so His word could be heard. Which it is.

The word was not necessarily spoken. In fact some people believe that God wrote the word.

They believe that He wrote it in enormous letters across the ocean with giant baked meringue letters.

I believe that He also wrote it on the moon using magical jam.
