If you are thinking of buying a used one stay away from the Police Interceptor Model ( the VIN Will have P71 P72 or P73 in it) as they are used and abused by city cops, and Cab drivers. One owned by the Highway patrol would probably be OK.
If buying a new one you wont have to worry because the dealer can not sell a new Police interceptor to individuals. You can probably get a better deal with a new Mercury Grand Marquis as it is basically the same as a Crown Victoria and the Lincoln Town car gives it competition at a Lincoln Mercury dealer, and you probably can find a good used one that was driven buy a little old lady to church and bingo.

My mom has had the same 1994 Crown Vic since bought new.
She doesn't drive much, either, and I just had her replace the original equipment tires (Michelins) the other day. (dry rot)
The only problem has been with the driver's side electric window motor replaced 2 times in 12 years. Not bad for any car on expenses. Also gets an unbelievable 30 mpg on the hwy.
The Vic has a good A/C and comfortable seats. This is a good car. Too bad Ford quit making it.

My experience with Ford is NEVER buy from Ford. I don't know anything specific about the Crown Victoria but I have a Ford Escort that's a piece of junk and I'm getting a Mazda next week.

They are one of the only and TRULY trouble free vehicles Ford makes. I guess the only reason there aren't more of them out there is because most people are intimidated by it's size, and the perception that front-wheel-drive is better in the winter, when in fact it really ISN'T. The rear-wheel-drive layout of this vehicle makes for relatively simple and inexpensive repairs if needed. They are also BETTER on fuel than a V6 Freestar!!! Ignore the comments from the people out there bashing Fords who don't have clue as to what they are talking about. Buy it, and enjoy MANY years of trouble free ownership.

Nothing to know, they are great vehicles. No problems that I can think of. When we sell a new Crown Vic at the dealership, I usually never see it again, except for oil changes. As for the first answerer, Ford owns Mazda.

hey meaghaan,
its funny that you didnt say that ford owns mazda and that parts for all major auto manufacturers are globally sourced. yes you made a mistake by buying an escort. id never buy one, but i can give you 20 people who are abundantly happy with theirs.
crown vics are great cars. no inherent flaws. as of 14OCT06, for model year 2006, there is one recall out for non-long wheelbase (limo package) vehicles as opposed to the scores some other auto makers have for their flagship models. it involves an inspection of the transmission oil cooler bypass valve.
bashing automobile makes and models is a result of ignorance.

Crown is rear wheel drive, great!
If you buy a used one, I would take the oil cap off, look inside the engine and make sure its clean.
