The lottery has its origins from when the United States was still a British colony. It is seen as a means of raising money and is not gambling per se. It may seem similar, but the funds actually go to the state to pay for schools and roads and such. It's perceived as a friendly form of taxation with a potential pay-off.

That makes too much sense. Besides, the Lottery isn't really gambling -- it's more of a sure thing...for the state!

Gambling is illegal in my state, but we do have the lottery....no casinos though. It would have to be approved by your state's legislature and/or voters. In my state, we voted in the lottery during the 2002 election (I think...I can't remember which election it was, but I think it wa 2002).

it should be but the state gets the money from the lottery so thats why they havent outlawed it
