LOL. This is a great question if it is indeed asked in the rail category purposely, and if this question coming up on your history exam is dealing with railroading.

Steam locomotives carried a general classification according to the wheel arrangement of each. Examples: 4-4-0, American, 2-8-2, Mikado, 2-6-2, Prairie, and many others.

Locomotives with a 2-10-4 wheel arrangement, indicating two "pony" wheels, 10 drive wheels, and four trailing wheels. These were of the general class, "Texas".

So, "a" Texas is a class of steam engine with a 2-10-4 wheel arrangement operated by several railroads, but most notably by the Santa Fe and the Pennsylvania Railroads, with the latter classifying their "Texas"s as J-1a.

So, you may have come to the right spot, if that spot wasn't "geography". But I'm thinking the answer for the question on your test is dealing with riverboats, and the answerers above with the pilot house information are quite correct and is the answer the teacher is looking for. But, throw this information in as well. It's probably good for extra credit.......and it never hurts to cover all the bases.

Good luck on your exams............................

A structure on a river steamboat containing the pilothouse and the officers' quarters.

[After Texas(from the fact that steamboat cabins were named after states and the officers' quarters were the largest).]
