First of all, Genesis 1:3-31 is not discussing the original creation of matter or of the heavenly bodies. It describes the preparation of the already existing earth for human habitation. This included creation of the basic kinds of vegetation, marine life, flying creatures, land animals, and the first human pair. All of this is said to have been done within a period of six “days.” However, the Hebrew word translated “day” has a variety of meanings, including ‘a long time; the time covering an extraordinary event.’ (Old Testament Word Studies, Grand Rapids, Mich.; 1978, W. Wilson, p. 109) The term used allows for the thought that each “day” could have been thousands of years in length.
Hence Genesis 1:1, 2 relates to a time before the six “days” outlined above. When these “days” commenced, the sun, moon, and stars were already in existence, their creation being referred to at Genesis 1:1. However, prior to these six “days” of creative activity “the earth proved to be formless and waste and there was darkness upon the surface of the watery deep.” (Ge 1:2) Apparently, a swaddling band of cloud layers still enveloped the earth, preventing light from reaching its surface.
When God said on Day One, “Let light come to be,” diffused light evidently penetrated the cloud layers even though the sources of that light could not yet be discerned from the earth’s surface. It seems that this was a gradual process, as is indicated by translator J. W. Watts: “And gradually light came into existence.” (Ge 1:3, A Distinctive Translation of Genesis)
God brought about a division between the light and the darkness, calling the light Day and the darkness Night. This indicates that the earth was rotating on its axis as it revolved around the sun, so that its hemispheres, eastern and western, could enjoy periods of light and darkness.—Ge 1:3, 4.

Dude, look closer~
In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.
What day did he create them on?
Now the earth was formless and empty. Darkness was on the surface of the deep. God's Spirit was hovering over the surface of the waters.
What day did God create the surface or the waters, what more darkness exists!!!!
None of that stuff, was created on such and such a day, woot!
You are right the earth was made before the sun, it does go against reality, BUT GODS SUPERNATURAL, so it don't matter unless your smart enough not to fall for that bull.
If you want to know more contradictions in the creation I can give them to ya, there's gota be at least 20ty.
Genesis1:
5 God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And there was evening and there was morning, the first day.
There is no such thing as evening and morning, with out a sun, that's past supernatural its idiotic.

Who ever said anything about the gravity of the sun being the most powerfull force.? People doubt the might of GOD. There is might greater than that of the sun, heavens, earth, gravity, and so forth. And that is GOD. It is in the unseen so it can be known for those who take heed. Maybe that is why the egyptions worshipped the sun. But mocked the GOD of moses(pbuh). And there was darkness before light. Look at the universe on a clear night. Darkness. Even the earth and sun came from this darkness. If you were in the darkness, would you even aknowledge it's existance. Not knowing it existed bc there was nothing to compare it to. At least for the human mind. Science are not always facts. They are all derived from theories that were later on proven. But even then, they can be wrong. This happens all the time to scientific facts. So in turn, they are not facts at all. For a fact can not be unproven to be false. Like how we need air to live. The best part of the genesis(beginning) that people overlooked is, "and after HE saw what HE created, HE was mad". PEACE!

Becouse there isn't details to all that happened we have to do a lot of figuring out on our own and with each decade comes new information. God said let there be light. He may have already had the sun but when it was time to put it in use He commanded it to be. When God said let there be light He hadn't yet created the plants and animals and mankind yet and the earth was covered in water so I don't know why you feel He needed the sun right away.

Please read all of this because it's the most accurate:
Thats because something happened before that in genesis 1:2 as later mentioned in Peter 1 or 2 when he talks about the world that then was and in Jeremiah when it makes comparisons and contrasts between that old earth's destruction and the future destruction of this earth.
Earth had already been made. Lucifer was part of the cherubim or high angels that were closest to God's throne. He was given earth to rule over and there were pre-adamite people who were therein. Later Lucifer became proud of himself and sinned. Then he led a rebellion of about 1/3 of heaven's angels against God. The earth joined in this rebellion. God then withheld light from the sun and moon from them and it was dark. the earth was made dark for the first time which was a result of sin. Then he destroyed earth and sent Satan(lucifer) and the rebelling angels down to the depths of the earth, hell.
That's what happened and then in genesis 1:2 he restored the earth. by saying "let there be light", it was similar to saying "allow there to be light". Then he created man perfect and was close to God, but sinned by disobedience and Satan eusurped the throne of man from this world and is now the pseudo prince of this world until the end when jesus comes back. Man fell and everyone is born a sinner through adam's seed. To free us all from being slaves to sin, God sent his son Jesus Christ to take the form of us, flesh and blood, to save us from our sins.
He then suffered and died on the cross and shed his blood so we can be made clean in the eyes of God and free from sin. As long as we ask forgiveness and repent from our sins with the blood of Jesus, then we can be saved and have a chance at salvation. Then you must repent and always grow in the spirit and you will certainly have eternal life. The reason for that is because Jesus died and was resurrected, defeating death, so that all would be resurrected. So the righteous dead will be resurrected at the end and have complete true salvation. But the sinners who died in their sins, denying Jesus christ as savior will just be resurrected last, and the wicked dead will be thrown into the lake of fire.
Thats why you must accept Jesus as savior and repent from your sins, because you get so many rewards from worshipping God and peace. where as, if you sin, sin does not pay, and just leads to destruction.
Did that answer your question if you read it all.

There are two lights; and the first one isn't the sun. You need to fully read the bible to understand it.
In Genesis 1:14 they talk about the 2nd light. This is the light to light the earth, the sun. In this verse God creates the stars, moon and sun.

yes...the bible is a set of rules created to govern society..{ prevent chaos, have repercussions for murder, theft etc} but people have gone overboard(in my opinion) with interpretations and the fact that it says homosexuality is wrong and abortion and suicide are to call for condemnation and blahblah blah...i feel that the bible has some common sense rules and some off the wall ideas...but who am i to say?? all i know is that i treat fellow humans with kindness and respect, i dont murder or steal, occasionally i lie but who doesnt( thats right, the self-righteous-lol) i dont read the bible, never have, but i live my life right and i think that if there is something after this life, ill be just fine =)

We don't know how, but we know He does - and that's what matters
