i need ideas for a place to have a wedding reception for example i have the idea of maybe a meeting room at a holiday inn or a senior citizens center with a dance floor. any ideas for places. FYI the wedding is very elegant so somewhere that i can have candles and a place to dance and have dim lighting.

I'm in the process of finding a reception site right now. Some of my suggestions would be:
a local museum (I'm really excited about my local museum of modern art!)
a country club
any botanic gardens in your city?
a nicer hotel (Four Seasons-ish) or a charming older/historic hotel

Parks and museums are nice. Depends on the weather. Churches are strict. I considered it and came into all sorts of dead ends: the make you take classes to get married at their church, no booze(not even champagne for a toast.) Some don't want DJ's. The require you clean up. I got married in July at the Hilton It was gorgeous but you have to buy food and such(its spendy) you can't just have your reception there. The Elks club or VFW or those types of places alot of times have banquet halls they rent out. A restaurant might be nice if you can section off an entire room. A backyard wedding can be beautiful. THE BEACH would be awesome! Congrats and Good Luck with your wedding plans!

Did you look in the yellow pages for reception sites or wedding information? We had our reception at a banquet hall. Ask around your area and see what people suggest - maybe even a fire hall? You could definately do it at the Holiday Inn - just make sure you book early....we had a hard time finding a place that was available on our date!

if you live near an us military base , they have really nice rooms with a dance floor to rent & the food can be catered & all set up & clean up taken care of, food is fantastic. it's the best place i know about. you could always do an elks lodge or woodmen of the world lodge, perhaps the country club. there also are churches that rent the gyms out or fellowship halls. i hope i've given you some good idea's . best of luck.

It might be easy to get a room at a golf course club house this time of year. One place I would say to NOT have a reception in, is at the all-you-can-eat buffet place!

why don't you try contacting the local park and see if you can have a certain area that's rather pretty blocked off for your reception, then you could dance under the stars with candles lit and the whole chebang.

all i can think of is a hotel. if you want elegant you would have to do the hotel deal. everywhere else would be too not so fancy for your idea. hope that helps/
