If you're looking specifically at how the website/company got its name, it stands for "Yet Another Hierarchical Officious Oracle." More info here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yahoo%21

I think the eighteenth-century novelist Jonathan Swift coined the term Yahoo; at least, he made it famous. In his _Gulliver's Travels_ (book 4 to be precise) he introduces a very selfish, filthy creature that's monkey-like in its behavior. These are the Yahoos. They're contrasted with the Houhnhym (sp???), who are creatures that look like horses, but are capable of reasoning. Gulliver (the main character) ends up having an identity crisis becuase he is terrified that he's *like* the Yahoos; he looks like them, but wants to imagine himself as a Houhnhym.
Why a website would choose this as a name is something I've wondered about before..... Maybe one of those Yahoo employees will take note of your question and supply an answer for both of us.

It can be an exclamation of enthusiastic excitement, or a person who is sort of a jerk.
