Yes, budgies love mirrors especially if there is only 1 budgie in the cage becuase they think it is another bird and talk to it, feed it, etc. Although apparently you shouldnt give your budgie a mirror if you are trying to teach them to talk i am not sure why though. It is a good idea to get soem other toys aswell like ladders, balls, dangly toys anything thats good for birds. Even if you hang a shoe lace from the top of the cage they love chewing them and it keeps them entertained for hours. You can pick up very cheap toys from crazy clarks or any cheapy stores. but be careful not to make the cage too overcrowded. Toys releave boredom. boredom is very bad for the health of your bird as it can lead to all sorts of health problems including feeather plucking. this may seem funny but it is quite serious i have has a budgie named melvin who who chewed his tail feathers completly off for about 6 months and then i put a few more toys and a female in his cage and he stopped

Yes, if you're only getting one budgie it's a good idea. Because it will make her think that there's another bird in the cage with her. We have 2 parakeets and they like the mirror even though there's someone already there to play with.

I do not recomend putting a mirror in your new bird's cage. Mirrors tend to frustrate a bird, which makes them mean. They will try to communicate with the "other bird", and when the "other bird" doesn't react, your bird will only get frustrated.
The best thing that you can do is spend a lot of your time with your new budgie.

I hope this helps.

I would not recommend putting a mirror in the parakeets cage. It might make him/her very upset to find out that the bird in the mirror does not respond back.

Yes you can, especially if you're only getting one bird. Seeing it's reflection will keep it from getting lonely. Also, you might get some chew toys made especially for birds.

P.S. Make sure you get a cage that will give it some flying room, and get natural wood perches that look like tree branches. It gives the cage a more natural setting for the bird.

It is a great idea to put a mirror in the cage. I would wait a while to buy a mirror. Gett to know your bird first. When he finally friendly with you, then put the mirror in the cage.

Some birds like mirrors, and some don't. Give it a try, and see what your bird thinks. Don't be disappointed if s/he doesn't like it, just be willing to try something new.

Also, try to look for bird-safe toys - a lot of what pet stores sell actually isn't safe for birds. Toys with zinc (a dull not-shiny metal) are not safe, wood that is dyed colors isn't great, and some woods are even less than safe.

No. Budgies are the hardest to train and socialize. They need daily interaction to learn to talk and play and be nice. Let me emphasize this.. DAILY... And if you slip off after a few weeks they will go back to being wild. They require lots of time everyday, throughout the day to learn to talk and socialize. Lots of dedication and commitment on your part! They are worth it if you are willing to put in the work and keep it up! Sheri - Public Education for Parrot Rehabilitation Society, San Diego

if you plan on training the bird you shouldn't put a mirror in the cage because the bird will talk to the other bird (its reflection) and not you

Sure you can. I have two parakeets and in their cage I have a ladder with a mirror on the top. They enjoy talking to themselves in the mirror.
