Dogs usually chew because they are bored. Is he doing it when you are away? Some dogs get really distressed when left alone. Espescially if they are alone a lot. Maybe he needs a pal. Does he have bones or chew toys? Also taking him for walks daily and paying lots of attention to him when you are there will help. Good luck!

A dog should be trained on how to eat, walk with you, not to bark, potty training and sleep on its place etc. You can teach anything to your puppy, dogs get trained easily with some good instructions. If you want some good training tips visit https://tr.im/byqI8
If properly trained, they should also understand whistle and gesture equivalents for all the relevant commands, e.g. short whistle or finger raised sit, long whistle or flat hand lay down, and so on.
It's important that they also get gestures and whistles as voice may not be sufficient over long distances and under certain circumstances.

If your dog does what it wants, then you are not its leader, its boss. You need to establish yourself as boss, as its leader.
Your dog is bored and needs to burn off energy. Take it for daily walks of at least 30-60 minutes. When walking your dog, keep the collar up high on the neck, so you can control the dog's head. Never let the dog lead you. Always keep you dog slightly back of you. Every once in a while, give your dog a break from walking so he can do doggy things like pee, poop, and smell. But for the rest of the walk be in quiet control. Be the boss.
At home teach your dog simple tricks, like sit, come, fetch, etc. I always have my dog sit when putting on his leash. Then he must sit by the door while I go out first (I'm the leader, so I go first.). By making him sit, I reestablish my leadership. He loves his walk, so he will do any trick so he can go for his walk.
Try the bitter apple as others have suggested. It worked with one of my dogs, but not with another. You might try keeping your dog away from the door frame by making it a no-go zone when he is not leashed.
If it is in your area, watch "The Dog Whisperer" on TV. It is an excellent TV show with both instruction and entertainment.

well, people sometimes give stupid answers, like "paint the door frame with battery acid". What a retard! Like another answered, your dog may be bored if left alone. You could put him/her in a crate while you were away. But when you return home, be sure to give him/her plenty of love and attention. you are your dog's best, and maybe ONLY friend. Enjoy him.

There is a product sold at pet supply stores called Grannick's Bitter Apple.
http://www.petsmart.com/global/product_detail.jsp?PRODUCT%3C%3Eprd_id=845524441775320&ASSORTMENT%3C%3East_id=2534374302023689&FOLDER%3C%3Efolder_id=2534374302033167&bmUID=1094693600945#detail
Spray it on anything that your dog chews on. He will find the taste terrible, and stop.
Also, keep an empty can of soda with a few pennies in it. If you catch the dog chewing inappropriately, give it a vigorous shake, while telling him "NO" firmly.

Crate trainning and use when you are not at home is a great start. Also try spraying everything with Bitter Apple. It is non-toxic and doesn't stain...we used it when we had a chewer and it worked great. Good luck.

Train him to not bite. There are training classes available at your local pet stores such as PetSmart and Petco.
