They do that in a round-a-bout way at the school my children attend. My son's are both in high school now and are required to do 30 hours, or 15 hours per semester, of community service work in order to graduate. Some parents get a little miffed about this, but I think it is an excellent why to teach kids that it can be rewarding doing things for other people.

Tofu Jesus,
I think that your idea is rather politically correct. I think that if I remember your posts and questions properly, you seem to have that type of persuasion. I do believe that the general message in school (at least when I was there about 30 years ago), the students were getting a buttload of political correctness already. At least where I went to school.

I think that perhaps our "moral compass" is busted because parents are unable/unwilling to teach their children those things. It's a sad notion to think that parents are so ineffective in "character building" that they would leave it to the school system. Then again, the same applies to nutrition, exercise etc....so why not?

They should teach COMMUNICATIONS SKILLS as early as
8th grade. It would cut down on a lot of the nonsense.
Except for those who just want to hear themselves talk.
I've learn we can't help everybody, because some people are straight up ignorant.

I like that idea very much. I also like the idea of teaching a punishment course in school showing the evils of drugs, religion, and criminals in general. I think we should show someone dealing in drugs should be executed.
Schools should have classes on religion and the religious as well as the atheists should have ot explain, not quote.

We already teach character traits. The trair for this month in our school is respect. I can't believe educators have to do this! What happened to the parents?
