Its most likely that its not hiv, it takes around 6 months to even make an attempt to detect it, and most of the time hiv doesnt have symptoms that quickly, in fact it generally doesnt show. that sounds to be more of a different kind of disorder....might be gonnorhea or syphilis... so dont worry too much, gonnorhea may cause some discomfort, but it seems to be caught early so the damage is reversible...some penicillin should help, just wait for the doctors diagnosis. the swollen glands may or may not be seen depending upon severity...your throat area was sore, that might have been a swelling since the neck is an area of lymphatic accumulation...PS: mind over body, if you keep thinking that way, most likely youll get sicker.... may god bless you

Well, you definitely need to be checked, because this does sound like an STD. Chances are, it won't be HIV, but it might be, in which case early detection and treatment are absolutely vital to extending your lifespan and your quality of life.
It sounds more likely that you have gonorrhea or chlamydia, because symptoms would be similar and these are much more common the HIV.
However, HIV tends to lay dormant for a period of time (the length varies from patient to patient), whereas symptoms for many other STDs present fairly soon.
As for checking your lymph nodes, the easiest to check are in your cervical (neck) region. Make a "C" with your index finger and thumb, then put the pads of your finger and thumb on either side of your trachea. Find your pulse, then move your thumb and finger in circles around that region. If your lymph nodes are swollen, you will feel a noticable lump in one or both sides of your neck. The swelling may be accompanied by mild pain.
Remember that Yahoo! is not a substitute for proper medical attention and treatment - get to a doctor for testion as soon as possible!
Best of luck!

You have lymph nodes all over your body, but I believe the ones that would swell in association with a sore throat are just under your jaw bone, about halfway between your ear and your chin. If you prod around quite a bit, you can feel them; they feel like two little peas. If they're swollen, they're going to feel a lot more obvious and probably tender to the touch.
From everything I've heard, the symptoms of HIV typically don't manifest themselves until a few years down the road. If you've read up on it, you've probably read that it can present itself as flu-like symptoms upon initial infection, but there are a LOT of diseases that are flu-like in nature as well.
Let's look at it this way. You had protected sex, which is a good thing. Not 100% effective, but it greatly reduces your risk. The immediate change in your body would lead me to believe more that you've just become sick coincidentally. There's a chance you've contracted an STD, but not necessarily HIV. There are a lot of STDs out there... many of which are curable, some which are not.
I suppose you're going to get a lot of comments telling you to go to the doctor, but it sounds like you're already working on that and just needing some reassurance until then. The doctor wouldn't be able to tell if you have HIV from the examination you've already had (pelvic exam and urinalysis). The HIV test is a blood test. If the doctor doesn't suggest one when you go back this week, and you're concerned about it, all you have to do is request it, and then you'll know.
In the meantime, try not to worry about it too much; I've always been really paranoid about HIV, too, despite the fact that my behavior has always been pretty low-risk. But, the doctor offered to test me for it one day while I was getting blood drawn for something else, and it came back negative... it's stressful waiting for the results, but the relief afterwards was awesome. Like I said, try not to worry too much... it's just going to make you feel sicker.
Best wishes!

Hiv is spread by vagina fluids, semen, blood, sharing needles if your a drug addict, theres alot of risk doing oral sex on each other an mostly doing anal sex if the person is infected with the deadful virus or even disease. If you dont know your partners status on stds and hiv then you need to before you do sexual intercourse with your partner, cause alot of people dont have there partners or one night stands or even hookers at times get tested infront of them for stds esp. hiv .! Before they have an sexual encounter with each other.! But I would definatley get tested with in 6-8 weeks, 12-24 weeks, an maybe even a year sometimes in rare cases because some people dont show anti-bodies for up to that long . But like I said its very RARE an unlikely to not know after 8 or 12 weeks or even 14 weeks from the possible explosure . But they do say after you pass the 3 month window period and its a true accurate result but it can take up to 6-12 months most of the time in rare cases.! But I hope for the best for you and I hope everything turns out NEGATIVE.!!!!!

Yahoo answers isn't the place to find resolution to this problem. You went to the doctor, I'm assuming you were honest with him, and now he's running tests. STD tests can take a few days (some come back in 24 hours, some take longer because they have to let the culture grow.)
If you described all your symptoms then your doctor is running the appropriate tests. Trust me, don't bother yourself with looking for answers online. You'll just get paranoid that you have herpes or chlamydia or something and stress yourself out.
Next time, be sure to ask your partner when they were last tested for STD's and have they had unprotected sex since.

Unlikely that HIV would incubate and have symptoms that quickly. Check out this website and be careful of who you are doing things with, and do not be messing with anyone until you get an answer from the Dr. and ensure that you are clean!
