Come up here to Maine. They don't call it vacationland for nothing!! The people are friendly but keep to themselves and right now the weather is lovely although unless you ski I'd avoid it in the winter :)

There is a wide variety of places you could travel to in US. Since you are looking for a less crowded place, we will forget the big cities.
Try Maine. It is beautiful in all seasons, not very crowded, and offers some spectacular views, and offers a nice, not very expensive break.
Another place if you are more adventerous type is Alaska.
Upstate New York is also not so crowded, and beautiful.
To south, there is Texas. Because it is such a big state, you can find less crowded areas quite easily.
Have fun.

Come see Burlington, VT. Right now we have amazing leaves, locally made maple syrup, and picture perfect scenery. In the winter we have the slopes which are extremely popular not to mention beautiful. Then in the summer there is the lake which is gorugeus and pristine and there are several lakes. Burlington may be the largest cit in Burlington but that isn't saying much. It's not that crowded and it is home to the birthplace of Ben and Jerry's. If you want any more info on Vermont you can e-mail me. I am an expert. E-mail: lexusright@yahoo.com. Good luck!

Vermont! The Burlington area! I see another posting highly recommending the Burlington area which I heartily endorse; having lived there myself for 10 years. Small, yes, but eclectic, 3 colleges and lots going on both in town and the surrounding Green mountains.
There are direct flights from O'Hare right to Burlington, which, if I recall correctly, take less than two hours.
Check it out & good luck. Don't often get two independent recommendations like this.

As mentioned above, New england is quite nice this time of year. You can fly Southwest from Midway to Manchester for not too much money, and the leaves are getting real pretty now.
Go north to Maine, or even Vermont, and you will find yourself relaxed. If you like lobster, there is only one real place to get "Maine" lobster, and that is Maine!
